I deeply envy women who have straight, frizz-free hair without having to do anything. My hair is not straight or wavy, it is simply a clump of hair with a lot of volume and a lot of frizz that there is no way to tame without going through the iron.
I hadn’t considered doing keratin straightening until the summer when I spent a few days on the beach with a friend who was out of the water and didn’t even have to comb her hair. “What is that witchcraft?” I asked. The magic of keratin at home
I had already heard about keratin at home, but I admit that I was afraid of burning or damaging my hair, I did not know well its components or if it was aggressive, so after the advice of my friend, I set out to look for opinions and results to encourage me to do it as soon as the holidays were over.
Common keratin doubts at home.
It is normal to have doubts when we talk about doing keratin straightening at home. Taking into account the price difference between a professional, a pack of these we ask ourselves: will my hair fall out?.
Do not panic, the worst thing that can happen is that it does not work for us, since it does not carry chemical compounds that spoil it.
Is it a toxic or aggressive product? It has no formaldehyde, nor guanidine, and warns that it does not emit toxic vapors, although the steam when ironing smells strong, yes. It has glyoxylic, vegetable keratin, amino acids, argan oil and shea butter.
Kativa straightening.
Saving pack with treatment + post-smoothing shampoo.
Up to 12 weeks duration.
Enriched with argan to moisturize the hair.
Apply Kativa keratin at home step by step.
Although there are many different Kativa straightening kits, I would say that they all carry the same thing, in the case of mine (a special treatment pack + post-straightening shampoo) what it includes is the following:
Sachet of 15ml Pre Treatment Shampoo.
100ml bottle Brazilian Straightening Treatment.
15ml bottle Shampoo.
15ml conditioning bottle.
A pair of gloves.
Brush.
Step by step brochure.
1 bottle of extra shampoo for the offer.
If we follow the instructions to the letter we will have good results. I have read some reviews of girls who skipped the step of the iron or passed it fewer times than indicated and it did not turn out as expected. I did it as indicated:
As for the time, with my half hair and enough hair it took me 3.20 hr to do everything. I started at 16:00 and finished at 19:20.
The step with which I took the longest was with the iron, because I wanted to make it perfect, because I know that is crucial for it to go well.
I leave you a before and after photo. They are not very focused because the child made them, but it is well appreciated. In both cases, the hair is only washed and dried with a dryer without combing.
Tips to make the treatment last longer:
Kativa keratin straightening usually lasts 12 weeks, but depending on the type of hair and subsequent care it can last more or less. It is advisable to follow a series of indications that will make it last longer:
• Do not use shampoos or products with salt, sulfates, or parabens. It is advisable to use the shampoo of the brand itself.
• The more you wash it, the less it will last. If you can, wash every 2 days instead of daily.
• The product has memory effect, so with heat it is reactivated. If you use the dryer to dry it when washing it, you will be extending the duration of the treatment.
Types of packs according to your hair.
Although the best known and used is the orange box, now we have many variants depending on the type of hair or how we want to do it.
• Classic smoothing of the orange box. It is the most used and the one with the most positive opinions. It works for all hair types, but it is convenient to know that in very dark hair you can lighten it a little.
• Smoothing without light blue or pink box plate. There are those who prefer it to avoid the iron, especially if they have a lot of hair. For the reviews, it is not the same as the classic nor does it last the same, it is rather an anti-frizz that lasts a month at most: Straightening without Kativa iron.
• Straightening for dark hair, blue box. Although it has good results in that it does not lighten the hair like the classic, by the reviews it seems more cumbersome to apply: Straightening for dark hair without lightening effect.
Advantages of treatment with Kativa
It’s the only brand I’ve ever used to straighten hair, so I can only talk about it and can’t make comparisons.
I decided on this one on the recommendation of my friend and because it is the one with the best reviews and one of the best sellers.
For me, these are the advantages I’ve noticed:
Decreases frizz and frizz noticeably. My hair as you saw in the photos was straight and with a lot of volume, it is very noticeable to the eye and touch.
Long lasting. The treatment in theory lasts up to 12 weeks, but everything depends on various factors such as the frequency of washing, type of hair, which we do not use later, products with sulfates, etc. I wash my hair every 3 days and only use the kativa shampoo that comes in the pack. With that I have noticed that the straightening lasts me a month longer than promised.
Silkier and healthier hair. The product does not contain salt, sulfates, parabens, formaldehyde or any substance that mistreats our hair. On the contrary, keratin nourishes and moisturizes the hair, as well as providing shine and softness.
