Smart watch with gps and calls.

Smart watch with gps and calls.

If there is an object that seems to me the most useful in the world for those of us who live in small towns where children enjoy freedom, that is undoubtedly the smartwatch or smart watch with gps and calls.

We have been using this type of watches for 5 years and the truth, I consider it essential for my peace of mind and the safety of the child.

But do not think that it only serves for children who go out alone to the street in their villages, these watches are very useful on vacation, when we go to crowded places, in mini getaways to cities that are not yours or in any other situation that involves many people and / or places unknown to children.

Do I need a watch of this type?

You may wonder this when you see them, and I could tell you a thousand situations in which it is very useful and has nothing to do with “watching” your children.
For example, it was good for me at first when we went on vacation or to amusement parks and it was a peace of mind to know that if at any time we separated we could call each other and I could also locate him.

Then he grew up and although I tried to extend to the maximum the moment of going out alone in the village, when the other children go out all in groups it was difficult to avoid it. Since then the use is continuous because I let him go out on the street with two conditions: that he wears the watch and that he answers the calls.

And as they grow up and it is no longer so necessary to be aware of where they are, the usefulness does not decrease: children who go up and down from school alone, others who come home alone until their parents leave work, those who go to extracurricular activities and leave later … Parents are communicated with them without having to give them a mobile phone that they can break or lose (which, in addition, in many centers is prohibited).

For all this I do not know when we will stop using it, at the moment of course not. The kid is 10 years old and because of the independence he has in the village I need the peace of mind of knowing that I can locate him and be in contact. That’s why he always wears his SoyMomo, a watch that stands out for its great precision, powerful battery and own app.

I’m not going to lie, in all these years I have had several watches, but none locates as fast and accurate as SoyMomo and that for me is fundamental when using a smart watch with the child.

What can the SoyMomo smartwatch do?

This type of smartwatch, also called smart watch or gps watch

🗺 Localization. The Space 2.0 model, which is the one we have, locates with total precision. It has 3 localization modes: 1,3 or 5 minutes. The shorter the time, the more accurate the location accuracy, but the more battery consumption. I used the 1 minute mode when I was very small to find it fast if requested. When they are older, having it in 5 minutes is enough.

📞 Calls. The watch can make and receive calls from the list previously configured by the parents. No number that is not on that list/agenda can call or be called from the clock.

📩 Free messages. They also have an internal and free messaging system type whastsap. Text or voice messages can be sent.

📹 Video calls. As a novelty with respect to old models that we used, now it is also possible to make video calls and the image quality is one of the best in this type of device.

📌 Secure perimeter. Another very useful function for parents whose children go out to play in the street with their friends is to be able to mark safe perimeters, that is, areas where children move. If the clock detects that they leave that area, we will receive the warning.

🆘 SOS button. The smartwatch has a single physical button that serves to turn it on and also to send emergency calls. In case of being in a dangerous situation, children will not have to look for the number in the agenda, pressing that button will call the emergency contact we have configured. Two contacts can be added and if the call is not taken by the first, it will call the second.

⌚ Controlled schedules. If children take the watch to class because they then come home alone and you fear that they will start playing with it, do not fear. In the app we can configure “do not disturb” schedules during which they will not be able to use their functions, call, be called or messaging. The SOS button is the only one that works at that time.

The only thing I miss from our model is the remote call function, an option that if I had the H₂O model already discontinued. It is a very useful function in case of an accident and that children can not pick up and you can not know what is happening. It is not something very common to happen, but it is a great peace of mind.

Currently, Soymomo has 3 types of watches: Space Lite, Space 2.0 and Space 4G.

The Space Lite model is ideal for the little ones and has a brutal resistance to shocks and falls, withstanding even falling from heights of 6 meters and with water resistance.

The Space 2.0 model has a much wider autonomy with 1000 mAh of battery and with an agenda where you can write down reminders such as training, extracurricular, etc. It even has a virtual assistant, Hey Momo, to which you can ask anything.

It also adds Wi-Fi connection and Friends function, by which they can communicate with other children who use Space 2.0 and who have been previously approved by adults.

The Space 4G model is similar to the 2.0 although with less battery, has flashlight function and combines Wi-Fi and 4g networks for a much more accurate location.

My opinion on the Space 2.0 smartwatch

For me using a smartwatch with these characteristics is vital because we live in a very small place where the kids enjoy a lot of freedom. It’s not the first one I have, so I know how to use them and I have experience with them, so when we changed I knew which strengths I had to value and which may be expendable for me.

What I like most about our watch:

🗺I mainly use the locator. So I don’t have to be calling the kid when he’s with his friends, I just have to look at the map and see where he is to know he’s okay and in a allowed place.
In that respect I have been convinced. I would like it to have satellite vision to which I was already accustomed, since I recognize the terrain and the streets much better. Instead, it has the classic view of Google maps, which reads just as well, but I like the other one better.
The precision when locating is total and at the moment. Although it is configured to locate every 5 minutes, we can activate the location icon whenever we want to force to send the current position.
Another addition is the history function to see the child’s itinerary.
We were doing tests in the city to show you how the real-time location and history would look:

📹📞We don’t use the video calling feature much because my 10-year-old son doesn’t want his friends to be watching his mom on screen and his mom seeing them… normal. But we have used it to test it and it has very good image and sound quality as long as there is good coverage.
As for the calls, you can hear perfectly in both directions and it is easy to access the agenda from the clock so they can call us.
If I notice that the call comes in 5-10 seconds later, but I guess it’s because of my signal that it’s pretty fair.

⚙If we talk about the initial configuration of the clock I have to say that it is extremely simple. Once we have our SIM card active and without a pin code, we just have to enter it in the clock, turn it on and associate it with the app with our mobile phone. It will detect the smartwatch at the moment and you will not have to be configuring servers, apn or anything else, since it does everything automatically.

🔌🔋Charging is something new for us too, because this time it doesn’t have the classic micro usb charging cable on the watch, but instead uses a magnetized charging station. Super easy for the child himself to put it on it when he takes it off and starts charging immediately. Its 1000 mAh battery give for a lot of use.

⌚Another point I like is that it comes with a spare strap. My previous watch we had to stop using it because the strap broke and there was no possibility of changing it, which makes you throw money away. SoyMomo watches, on the other hand, have interchangeable straps, which extends their useful life in the event that the straps are damaged and the watch continues to work perfectly.

💢⛔Finally, I like the function of being able to delimit a secure perimeter and that warns us if they exceed it. Our town is small, but it has a lot of mountains and sometimes the children decide to go on excursions on their own and I am scared to death in case something happens to them.

Points that could change/improve:

Although in general I am very happy with the watch, having used other models I can not help but compare and notice things that I miss and some of them seem important to me.

I wish children couldn’t turn them off or change settings. From the clock they can do both things and the smartest children who do not want their parents to locate them, will tend to turn it off and say that they ran out of battery. It would be perfect if it can only be turned off from the app.

Another feature I miss is one that is found in other SoyMomo models, but not in this one: remote calling.
It serves so that the watch automatically picks up the call without children having to. A useful function when they do not answer and we can get nervous or in case they have had a mishap.

Finally, although it is not very important, I wish we could choose the type of vision we want on the map to be able to opt for satellite vision. As I said before, I was used to it and I like it better.

Independence for them, peace of mind for us.

A smartwatch with GPS and calls is certainly 100 times better than a mobile at this age. In fact, I think that with less than 12-14 years it is crazy to leave them a mobile to go outside, I have seen many phones break by playing with them. I do not enter into the debate of whether they should have them or not, only that on the street they should not use it.
To go out and be in contact with their parents is more than enough the clock, and not having a mobile phone favors that they make more social relationship with other children, that they play as we did before and that they move away from the screens.

The different types of configuration offered by the SoyMomo app allow you to adapt it to each age range. It is not the same to have to control even the perimeter for a child of 9-10 years, than to leave more freedom to one of 12-14.
Therefore, according to the situation, needs and age of each one, it is adjusted so that it serves to communicate without being a spy for our children.
